Every journey begins with a decision

Stories of Stewardship

Every story begins with a decision.

A decision to think differently. A decision to steward intentionally. A decision to stop surviving and start building.

These stories are not about perfection. They are about Transformation, Preparation, and Possibility.

A Journey of Stewardship

In 2017, this family participated in one of my financial literacy workshops and made a commitment to steward their resources differently.

What began as a decision to learn became a journey of discipline, intentional budgeting, faith, and consistency.

Years later, they achieved a goal many people only dream about.

They paid off their home.

Their story is a reminder that transformation does not happen overnight. It happens through small decisions repeated consistently over time.

Watch their story and hear firsthand how stewardship helped change their financial future.

Restoring Financial Peace

In 2017, Ben and Renée found themselves struggling under the weight of credit card debt, financial stress, and a lack of intentional planning. Money had become a source of frustration and tension within their marriage.

Determined to create a different future, Renée approached me and asked for help.

Through financial literacy education, stewardship principles, budgeting, intentional decision-making, and consistent action, they began changing not only their finances but also the way they communicated and planned together.

Over time, they moved from living paycheck to paycheck to building a fully funded six-month emergency fund and creating greater financial stability for their family.

Their story is a reminder that stewardship is not just about money. It is about creating peace, purpose, and alignment for the future you are building together.

Building A Business With Purpose

For several years, Rob talked about starting his own community-based services business. We had many conversations about entrepreneurship, ownership, leadership, and what it would take to build something that could serve others.

Then one day, Rob made a decision. He stopped talking about building a business and started building one.

Since 2022, he has successfully operated a Community-Based Supports agency serving individuals through the Division of Developmental Disabilities.

One of my favorite things Rob says to me is: “Stenell, you build bosses.”

The goal was never to build a business for him. The goal was to help him believe he could build it himself.

Building Credit With Intention

For years, Jeanne struggled with maintaining a strong credit profile and understanding how credit scores actually worked.

Through education, intentional credit management, and consistent habits, she began improving her credit one decision at a time.

One of the most important lessons she learned was understanding credit utilization. A key principle we discussed was keeping credit utilization below 10% whenever possible and being intentional about how credit is used throughout the month.

Today, Jeanne continues to strengthen her credit profile through consistency, discipline, and stewardship.

Her story is a reminder that credit improvement is not about perfection. It is about understanding the rules, making intentional decisions, and staying committed to the process.

Where It Began

2017 Financial Literacy Workshop

Before Influence became a website, it was a classroom.

This video was captured during a 2017 financial literacy workshop where individuals made a commitment to steward their finances differently.

For some, that meant creating a budget.

For others, it meant paying off debt.

For many, it was the first time they viewed money through the lens of stewardship instead of survival.

Influence did not begin online.

It began with real people making real decisions to change their future.

Preparation

Preparation

Stories of people preparing today for opportunities tomorrow.

Preparing For Homeownership

Like many young adults, Genesis quickly discovered that housing is not as simple as it once seemed.

Rising rents, increasing costs, and apartment requirements that often require income three times the monthly rent can make getting started feel overwhelming.

Instead of becoming discouraged, she chose to focus on what she could control. By learning about credit, saving, financial stewardship, and homeownership, she began preparing for future opportunities.

Her story is a reminder that ownership begins long before receiving the keys to a home. It begins with preparation.

Possibility

Possibility

Stories of people discovering that more may be possible than they once believed.

Exploring New Possibilities

Danielle is a hardworking caregiver who, like many people, sometimes wonders what comes next.

As the cost of living continues to rise, she has found herself thinking about ways to create greater opportunities for herself and her future.

During our conversations, we began discussing the difference between having a job and building something of your own.

Together, we explored the idea that the skills, experience, and knowledge she already possesses may be more valuable than she realizes.

Her journey is still being written. But she is beginning to ask new questions, explore new possibilities, and think differently about what her future could look like.

Sometimes stewardship begins with a decision to believe that more is possible.

Legacy

Legacy

Stories of wisdom passed forward — caring for family, teaching the next generation, and building what outlives us.

Caring For The Next Generation

A friend once asked me a simple question:

“What would happen to everything I've built if something happened to me?”

Like many families, they had worked hard for their home, savings, and future but had never thought about trusts, beneficiaries, or estate planning.

Our conversations helped them realize that legacy is not just about leaving assets.

It is about leaving a plan.

Today they have peace knowing their wishes are documented and their family is better prepared for the future.

Legacy is not measured by what you leave behind.

Legacy is measured by who is better because you were here.

As you read these stories, ask yourself

  • What is one area of my life that needs greater stewardship?
  • What goal have I been postponing?
  • What small decision can I make today that moves me closer to the future I want to build?

Closing Message

Every journey begins with a decision.

Not a perfect decision.
